The release of last year’s FORTE marked the 20th anniversary for Pan-Pot, a collection of tracks that showcased their past, present and future, now gets reworked by a careful selection of artists who’ve grabbed their attention with their productions.
Giorgia Angiuli’s rework of ‘Utopia’ takes the progressive energy of the original and charges it with a deep, sonic electricity. The Italian is also a composer and multi-instrumentalist who moves between pop, techno, and house, using her vocals to create dreamy dimensions. With her remix of ‘Utopia’ she toughens up the drums, with glacial like synths and diminished lyrics, making a more distorted vocal presence to the original.
DAST delivers a stirring reinterpretation of ‘Evolution’. An artist who is welcomed back on the label, after his ‘Shadow Root’ EP earlier this year. By cranking the intensity, he conjures a weighty, growling bass that gnarls and chases down the retro-wave synth borrowed from the original as it casually dances over cavernous drum patterns. Another Italian remixer on this pack, DAST has released tracks on labels including Planet X, Suara and CR2 Records.
LUMI is a fast-growing new name to the scene, who has gained substantial recognition this year already with her releases on Kneaded Pains and Octopus. The Finnish artist’s rework of ‘Bond’ modulates the swinging drums and swishing percussion skyward. The result is blistering with a melody that spirals above emotive strings, rousing horns and the track’s systematised looping vocal hook.
